Feelin' That Elite Beat

Although I haven't had much time to play Saints Row the past couple nights (who knew that teething could cause a baby to throw up?), I have managed to log quite a bit of time with Elite Beat Agents on my Nintendo DS Lite. I'm happy that we live in the day and age where I can play video games while commuting to and from work.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Elite Beat Agents, it's basically a rhythm game. Coloured circles appear on the DS' touch screen and you tap it with the stylus. There are phrase markers that force you place your stylus on the screen and trace a path as you continue to hold your stylus on top of a rolling marker. And finally, there are spin markers that force you to move your stylus in a frantic clockwise or counter-clockwise motion (this last marker is also known as the "scratch-the-crap-out-of-your-DS" marker).

The game's visuals, storyline, and gameplay may seem childish to the casual observer but it's actually quite fun and extremely addictive. I'm currently midway through the Sweatin' difficulty which is about as hard as it gets. From what I hear, the hardest difficulty setting (known as Hard Rock) is basically the same as Sweatin' with the beats reversed. I'm still not sure what is meant by "beats reversed" but it doesn't sound that much harder.

I can't really explain the game any better than that. Luckily, I have some video clips!

This first clip is the TV commercial that appeared for the game. Sorry about the quality - YouTube videos can be pretty iffy at times.

Here's a video game review of EBA: it gives you a good idea of what to expect from Elite Beat Agents. Immediately following this clip is a clip of some honest-to-goodness gaming goodness. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, none of the videos above do Elite Beat Agents justice. If you're a fan of music/rhythm games or if you like a good challenge to keep you busy, then give Elite Beat Agents a try!
