A Little Bit of Everything

Despite playing more poker than video games lately, there is quite a bit of news coming in from the gaming world that has me putting down my mouse and picking up my Xbox 360 controller. And as the economy gets worse and worse, it's nice to know that video games will be the violins played as the ship continues to sink.

I'm a little late on this news but have you seen the newest trailers for Batman: Arkham Asylum?

I can't believe how much DLC is coming out of Criterion Games for their excellent driving/crashing game Burnout Paradise. I originally borrowed the game from a friend and played it for a while. With all the new content forthcoming, I'm going to head out to stores, pick up a brand new copy of the game, and get playing.

At the present time, Criterion Games has announced no less than five new DLC packs coming out in 2009. And that's not even counting the recently released Burnout Paradise Party Pack (800 points). Here's a list of what to expect from Criterion Games this year:
  • Burnout Paradise Legendary Cars
Coming in 2009, Burnout Paradise Legendary Cars brings four amazing new cars to Paradise City. Featuring the Jansen 88 Special hover car, Cavalry Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit and GT Nighthawk, this is a premium downloadable pack you won't want to miss.

  • Burnout Paradise Toy Cars
The Toy Cars Pack brings 9 classic Burnout Paradise vehicles to the city with an outrageous toy twist. These crazy vehicles are the perfect way to mix up an online session and will be coming to Burnout Paradise as a premium download in 2009.

  • Burnout Paradise Boost Specials
The Boost Specials Pack adds two awesome vehicles to Burnout Paradise that are all about high-performance boosting. This must-have pack blazes into Paradise City for purchase in 2009.

  • Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Island
In 2009, Big Surf Island - Burnout Paradise's biggest downloadable pack will become available for purchase. This pack brings a vast offshore island to Burnout Paradise, filled with more stunts, jumps and exciting opportunities for gameplay per square foot than anywhere else in Paradise City.

  • Cops and Robbers Pack
I've only read about this at Kotaku but it sounds awesome. I love any racing game that lets me get behind the wheel of a police cruiser and start hunting down suspects. Read more about the cops and robbers pack over at Kotaku.
  • Burnout Paradise Premium Pack
This pack will be announced very soon. Keep checking www.criteriongames.com for all the latest info. You can expect this pack in 2009.
Don't forget that Criterion Games also released two free DLC packs last year: the Cagney Pack and the Bikes Pack!

If you haven't played Burnout Paradise, you have no idea what you've been missing! Check out the trailers below.

In one week's time, Rockstar Games is releasing GTA IV: The Lost and Damned. This the first downloadable content pack being released exclusively on the Xbox 360 and will further extend Grand Theft Auto IV's incredible gameplay. Although I won't be playing the game myself, you should check out the trailer below to see if you're ready to live the life of a biker in Liberty City.

On the home front, I've been mostly playing Far Cry 2. It's an incredible game with a huge map to explore and tons of stuff to do. Graphics are top notch and the gameplay is fun if a little repetitive at times when doing the optional side missions. I'm looking forward to tackling the main story line at some point in the near future.

Last night, I decided to play a little Halo 3. I've finished off all missions save for the last. Halo 3 has been a pleasant surprise for me. I find the most impressive aspect of the game is the soundtrack. The music picks up at just the right times and really helps drive the action forward. Even Halo 3's story line is much better than I'd anticipated.

Tonight, I plan to finish the fight in Halo 3.

Tomorrow? A little mercenary fun in Africa...

Have a good one!
