Shepard, Saren, and Guybrush Threepwood

I've spent a lot of time with Mass Effect over the past week. I'm almost finished my Hardcore playthrough and looking forward to trying my hand at the Insanity mode. I really haven't had many problems with the Hardcore difficulty at all. I think the one thing saving me is the fact that I chose to play as a biotic specialist. The ability to launch an entire room of enemies into the air has saved Shepard's bacon time and time again.

I'm going to assume that most of my readers have played the original Mass Effect by now. If not, there may be a minor spoiler or two ahead.

When I stopped playing last night, Shepard and crew were back on The Citadel, grounded by The Council. My last boss fight was the Saren encounter on Virmire. I was expecting a tough fight but it was a joke. I hit Saren with singularity (no effect) and Warp while Garrus fired away with a Sniper rifle and Wrex unloaded with his assault rifle. And then the boss fight was over. I'd say the entire encounter took less than 10 seconds. I'm not complaining: I love ridiculously easy boss fights. It's just strange that I should have such an easy time of it this late in my Hardcore playthrough.

I expect to finish Mass Effect in one or two more sessions. I have a quick stop to make on Ilos followed by an epic final boss battle. I have Mass Effect 2 at home right now but I'm going to resist temptation and stick with Mass Effect a while longer. I'd like to finish up the Pinnacle Station DLC with my level 58 Shepard (on Casual or Normal difficulty) before tackling the Mass Effect Insanity difficulty setting. Once I've finished my third and final full playthrough of Mass Effect, I'll be ready for Mass Effect 2.

In other news, I'm happy to see that Tales of Monkey Island is coming to the PSN for $20! And it's coming tomorrow! I may take a small break from Mass Effect to spend some time with Guybrush Threepwood. Mass Effect 2 isn't going anywhere and a change of pace might be nice. I'm somewhat partial to the idea of playing Tales of Monkey Island over the Father's Day weekend!

A friend of mine also picked up Red Dead Redemption for his Xbox 360. I may be able to borrow his copy at some point this year and give the game a shot. It's a pretty "mature" title, mainly due to its ultra-violent content, but I've heard a ton of great things about the game.

Finally, I'm going to leave you with a trailer for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. I won't know how good or bad the game plays until we get closer to the game's release date. But I will say that the trailer for Force Unleashed II is pretty kick ass!

I'll be back as soon as I've finished Mass Effect. Have a good one!
